EXHIBITION 'FAIR FASHION LAB'
april 26 – december 31, 2014
moniquevanheist is one of six participants of the exhibition 'fair fashion lab' at the humanity house in the hague.
the exhibition reacts upon the disaster in a garment-factory in bangladesh in 2013, and the irresponsible working-conditions in parts of the textile industry. more and more people - from producer to consumer - feel things have to change and are looking for solutions for this situation.
in the exhibition 'fair fashion lab' the humanity house researches the future of an honest and decent textile industry. from six angles, varying from design, art and technology, unusual suggestions to solve this problem are presented in the exhibition.
moniquevanheist challenges visitors of the exhibition to experience themselves what it takes to actually make an entire garment.
for this experience she made the pattern of her design 'protestcoat' - a coat inspired by coats worn by squatters in the 80's - available to visitors.
in a small edited studio visitors can fit the coat in their size, copy the pattern in the right size and make the protestcoat themselves at home. it's moniquevanheists' reaction on massproduction and her ode to self-afficacy and a surprising view on the handicraft.
